Technology and society have changed markedly in the nearly 30 years that Scankab has existed. However, one thing has not changed. The world needs cables, and the demand for a sustainable partner has historical momentum.
As one of the frontrunners in the development, production and delivery of quality cables and routings, Scankab is actively contributing to the green transition.
For us, sustainability is especially about the environment with a focus on minimising energy consumption, CO2 emissions and waste disposal.
“We can’t move energy if we don’t have a cable. Energy is needed for everything. As a manufacturer of fundamentally necessary connection systems, Scankab can make a real difference when it comes to developing our production methods and processes in a more sustainable direction.”
This is how we take active corporate social responsibility
Scankab’s wide range of quality cables are always tested and certified according to international standards. Legislation and licencing conditions are a minimum requirement.
But Scankab strives to do more:
We minimise waste through process optimisation, logistics and stock control.
We work with subsuppliers and transport partners who operate according to the highest environmental standards.
We expand the product range that can be included in Nordic Ecolabelling’s database of products that can be used in sustainable construction.
We train the next generation of installation contractors within fire safety, etc., through teaching at Scandinavian educational institutions.
We reduce transport emissions by converting the fleet from diesel to electric and hybrid cars.
This means that we can remove up to three diesel cars from the CO2 accounts for every single electric car we put on the roads.
We increase safety in construction with CPR-labelled cables that are self-extinguishing and tested according to CPR fire classes EN 50575.
We disassemble the factory drums and stack the parts (“flatpack”). This means that we can send 90 drums per return transport of drum packaging each time compared to 20 drums before.
In round figures, we save 4 lorries each time.
We recycle FSC-labelled wooden drums and cable scrap, as well as prioritise environmentally friendly and safe waste sorting.
We reduce our internal travel activity by up to 75% through increased use of online video conferencing and remote virtual collaboration.
We use cardboard boxes and plastic drums made from recycled materials and use FSC-certified and/or Nordic Ecolabelled paper.
We actively contribute to the national climate effort towards more renewable energy as a supplier to combined heat and power plants, biogas plants, wind turbines and solar farms.
Scankab supports the UN’s Global Goals with particular focus on Goal 9. It is about taking an active part in the work of building a robust infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and supporting innovation. When there is a natural connection with Scankab’s core business, we want to take the lead in a sustainable direction.
